WOODBRIDGE – An elementary school teacher who went missing six months ago has been found dead in a heavily wooded area of Colonia, according to police.

The remains of Edward Wortman, 34, were found off Water Street on Friday, police said.

"The New Jersey State Police anthropologist positively identified the body from dental records," Woodbridge police Capt. Roy Hoppock said in a news release on Wednesday.

Hoppock said it may take several weeks to determine a cause of death.

Wortman disappeared the morning of Saturday, Oct. 25. He left his home in Colonia without his wallet, license, any extra clothes, or his glasses, according to his wife, Cherie.

Wortman was an elementary school teacher at Banneker Academy in the East Orange School District for 10 years. He was suspended from the school with pay in January 2014 stemming from an incident that is still under investigation, family members said earlier this month.
