Making A Difference

"I decided to combine my passion for running with my unwavering desire to pay it forward and to help others. My fundraising goal is to raise money for a few 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations in the United States that are working diligently and tirelessly in Liberia to help my less fortunate brothers and sisters."

Vickie Jackson running a marathon

Vickie Jackson, the founder of Run for Liberia, is determined to make a difference in the ongoing struggle to provide aid to our brothers and sisters in Liberia. Vickie was born and raised in Liberia. In 1990, she fled her beautiful and beloved country to escape the 14-year civil war that massacred more than 250,000 of her brothers and sisters and displaced hundreds of thousands more.

Vickie was fortunate to begin a new life in the United States in 1991 and was eventually granted Political Asylum. Her days were spent working hard and she has not taken for granted the opportunities afforded to her. She worked full time while paying for and going to college part time in the evenings. Vickie graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Accountancy and later obtained a Master's Degree in Business Administration. In 2002, she became a Certified Public Accountant.

For more than a decade, Vickie has run marathons and participated in various races and walk-a-thons to raise funds for numerous non-profit organizations in the U.S. In 2013, she learned about the Liberia Marathon, which was organized by expatriates from the U.S. As she already had plans to run 3 full marathons in 2013, she vowed to make plans to return home to Liberia, for the first time in twenty-four years to run the 2014 Liberia Marathon.

Vickie decided to combine her passion for running with her unwavering desire to pay it forward and to help others, as she has been blessed. This gave birth to her Run for Liberia Fundraiser. Her fundraising goal is to raise money for a few outstanding 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations in the United States that are working diligently and tirelessly in Liberia to help our less fortunate brothers and sisters. The non-profit organizations benefiting from her fundraiser are as follows:

  • Checago Bright Foundation
  • Children's Rescue Center
  • Earnestine F. W. Smith Distinguished Leader Award – College of West Africa, Class of 1988 Scholarship Fund
  • Gbomai Bestman Foundation
  • Sisters of Substance
  • Smile Liberia International
  • Victor E. Ward Educational Fund

Please sponsor Vickie as she runs the 2014 Liberia Marathon by making a donation. No amount donated is too small to help our less fortunate brothers and sisters, who do not deserve the hand that they were dealt! All proceeds received will go to these 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations as she is personally financing her entire trip to Liberia. "Thank you in advance for your generosity and for helping me to make THIS TIME FOR AFRICA!!"
