M. W. Goda Baker

The Baker, Carter and Woods families announce the home-going of our husband, father, brother, cousin, grandfather and great grandfather, M. W. Goda Baker, on Wednesday, November 6, 2013. Goda Baker served as Deputy Minister of Lands, Mines and Energy in Monrovia, Liberia until 1980, when he relocated his family to the Fort Worth, Texas, United States. He was Liberia's first professional mining geologist, and a graduate of Southern Illinois University.

In the U.S., Mr. Baker joined the City of Fort Worth Water Department's soil laboratory in 1982, until his retirement in 2004. He loved his homeland Liberia, and in 2007 he relocated, along with his wife, to Liberia, where he launched LISCA (Liberian Senior Citizens Association), a branch of the U.S. association that he started after his retirement.

He leaves to mourn his wife of 53 years, Hesta Woods-Baker; five children – M. W. Goda Baker Jr., Marjanne Baker, Kween Baker, Hesta Baker, Madia Baker-Okonofua; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; son-in-law Samuel Okonofua; daughter-in-law Ania Baker; brother – Cllr. Nyema Baker; sisters – Dr. Yede Baker-Dennis and Bade Baker; Brother in –law Dr. Emmet Dennis; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
